Regression Testing Strategy

Real-World Example

Scenario: An e-commerce site adds a new "gift wrapping" option at checkout.

Regression tests to run: - Basic checkout flow without gift wrapping (did we break the default?) - Add to cart functionality (still works?) - Price calculation (correct totals?) - Payment processing (still charges correctly?) - Order confirmation email (still sends?) - User account order history (shows correctly?)

These are all existing features that could be affected by the checkout modification. Running these regression tests ensures the new feature didn't break anything.

Common Mistakes

Running the entire suite for every small change Be strategic. A CSS color change doesn't require 500 tests. A database schema change might.

Not maintaining the test suite Outdated tests that fail for wrong reasons create noise. Keep your suite clean and trustworthy.
